When I had heard that Modeselektor had teamed up with Thom Yorke of Radiohead I had no idea what to expect. Well it didn’t disappoint!
The Crookers Dr Gonzo album also featured a great collaboration with Scottish beat-master Hudson Mohawke that some how just works!
One of my albums of the year has to be Dr Gonzo by Italian bad-asses, Crookers. Stand out tracks have to be Hummus and this track Bust ‘Em Up (Ft. Savage Skulls). 2manydjs featured this track in their 2011 Soulwaxmas set and the crowd loved it.
It takes something special to cover Prince especially when it’s one of his most iconic songs, when doves cry. But Alex Clare’s unique soulful voice mixed with an element of dubstep has given this song a 21st century twist. Taken from his album The Lateness Of The Hour.
I haven’t had the time to post for ages so I’m going to post some of my favourite 2011 tracks. The track “Synrise” is taken from the album of the same name by Goose. Although the rest of the album sadly doesn’t live up to it’s opening track this is still a great song. The slow mo, abstract art looks pretty good visually too!
